Dear Friend,
In this post I would like to talk to you about Newborn Photography. Newborn Photography is one of the most difficult genres: besides knowing how to set up good lighting and props, you also need to know how to work with a 7-14 days old baby, that is a very responsible task. You have to be worried about baby’s safety and comfort first of everything. Please let me give you some advices on how to get ready for a Newborn Photoshoot.
Dear parents, thank you very much for taking your time to read this topic before our photoshoot- It’s going to help us to prepare everything right to get beautiful photos! First of all, I would like to say, that I absolutely understand that this routine is new for you! For a few weeks after the birth you are just getting used to the new family member, who needs so much attention and love, and that is amazing! Congratulations to you, you are doing a wonderful job!
LOCATION
I usually come to your place. And bring everything I need: beanbag, lighting, and decorations.
DATES
First 7-14 days is the best period for a Newborn Photoshoot: baby is sleeping most of the time, but also getting into the sleeping-feeding schedule.
TIME AND COMFORT
Baby is going to fall asleep after feeding and sleep soundly, if you keep the baby awake for a while before the photoshoot, so I usually advice my clients to give baby a bath before I arrive. When I get to the place I recommend to feed the baby before Family Session and try to put baby asleep during the Family Session. Then feed the baby after the Family Session while I am setting up beanbag, lighting, and props.
If baby is not feeling comfortable and needs more food, I am always happy to take a break and give you as much time as you need to satisfy all the needs, I understand how important it is.
Babies are feeling energies very well, so let’s stay positive, relaxed, and calm!
ROOM
Since the baby is going to be naked or only partially dressed, It’s very important to heat up the room before the photoshoot and keep it warm during the session. Perfect room’s temperature would be 85F. I highly recommend to turn on a heater before our session!
I think many parents know how magical White Noise is for kids, it helps them to calm down and have a deeper sleep. I would highly recommend to get a White Noise Machine for baby’s room and also use it during the session.
LIGHTING
-I prefer working with natural lighting, but I always grab a soft box to correct some shades that may appear.
-To get beautiful high-quality photos at your house we NEED TO have a big open window.
DECORATIONS AND PROPS
To set up a small studio I am bringing a lot of props , beanbag, backdrops, and a stand. You don’t really have to worry about anything like that, however you might need to prepare a special toy or a favorite hat.
I think all of us saw the beautiful pictures where babies are sleeping in cute poses and seem to be very comfortable and happy. To make it happen, photographers use special posing pillows, so do I!:)
Thank you for the attention and I look forward to working with you!
Best wishes,
Anastasia
